As a former golf professional, I was lucky to get invited to various country clubs and golf clubs to play with members. One of the members of a club I worked at in New York was also a member at Boca Woods. I’ve taken this course numerous times, maybe close to 10 times, and I enjoyed my experience. Boca Woods is unlike other courses in the Boca area, and I think it doesn’t get the credit you deserve. I’ll fill you in on everything you need to know about Boca Woods Country Club.
Facilities and Features Overview
Boca Woods is a smaller country club in Palm Beach Country, Florida. It’s located a little bit west, out by 441. The website says it’s just a few minutes from the beach, but it’s more like 25 minutes.
The club has two 18-hole golf courses, a tennis course, pickleball courts, a swimming pool, and dining. In addition, a recently renovated fitness facility is available. Boca Woods checks all the boxes for what you need at a South Florida country club.

Boca Woods Country Club Costs
One of the reasons Boca Woods was appealing was the reduced costs of getting in. However, in the last ten years, these costs have increased significantly. With renovations, the popularity of South Florida, and the competitiveness of the country club, market fees have gone up.
The initiation fee was closer to $30,000 for a while, but it now sits at $75,000. The total commitment is $95,000, but $20,000 is refundable when you sell your home in Boca Woods. The annual dues at Boca Woods Country Club for a golf member are $17.430. Keep in mind that you have access to two golf courses.
Membership is required when purchasing a home, which helps to keep this community financially stable. However, the Social/Tennis membership is an option for non golfers.
Membership Type | Initiation Fee | Annual Dues |
Full Golf | $75,000 | $17,430 |
Social/Tennis | $55,000 | $10,458 |
Boca Woods vs. The Competition
As I mentioned, Boca Woods is a little different than other clubs in the area. It has a smaller membership but still offers two golf courses. This makes it a little easier to get out and play and a lot easier to get to know people.
Some similar clubs like Boca West Country Club, Hunters Run Country Club, and Broken Sound have much different price points and models. I won’t call Boca Woods sleepy as it is very active, but it has more of a personalized feel because of the tight-knit community.

Pros and Cons of Boca Woods Country Club
Now that you have the basics of Boca Woods Country Club down let’s look at my experience and what I can tell you about this place. As a former professional golfer and membership director, I quickly pointed out the good and the bad about Boca Woods.
Two Golf Courses
Boca Woods Country Club has two courses, the Lakes and the Woods course. I’ve played both, and they are great designs. Karl Litten designed the Lakes Course, but it was recently renovated.
The Woods Course was my favorite. Joe Lee designed it. There are lots of bunkers, and you have to pull off some shots, but it’s also very fair.
Having two golf courses makes it easier not to get bored and take full advantage of playing some great golf daily. You’ll also love it if there is maintenance on one course; you aren’t waiting around to be able to play again.
Membership Cap at 530
Membership at Boca Woods is capped at 530 people. The facilities aren’t huge, and because of that, they put a cap. This is a GREAT thing for members. Also, 530 people over two golf courses is not a lot.
If you are moving to the area and are afraid you will wait for years before you can get morning tee times, talk to the membership director at Boca Woods. You should be just fine.
Recently Renovated
It’s always good to look at when golf courses and country clubs were last renovated. The renovation process can be a bit annoying, but it’s good that clubs are paying attention. It helps you protect your investment in your home and club if things are continually updated. The Woods Course is going to see a major renovation in 2024. Of course, this one was my favorite!
Some Homes Outdated
Some homes in the Boca Woods community are a bit dated. You will have to take your time to find the perfect match. However, the pricing in the neighborhood is also a little lower than in the surrounding areas, so it should give you some room in the budget.
Course Conditions Are Good
Course conditions are good. I won’t tell you they are the most pristine golf courses I have ever played, but the greens are the big thing I look at. The greens were rolling great every time I played.
In addition, the landscaping around the property was well done, as you would expect at any Boca Raton country club.
Smaller Pool of People
I look at the smaller membership numbers positively. Having a closer-knit feel where staff likely knows you is an excellent thing about a community and country club. However, some people find that it limits the number of people they can meet and the groups they can be friends with.
If you like meeting new people every day and want a massive facility, try Boca West. Boca Woods just isn’t that, and that is part of the appeal for many people.
More Modest Facilities
I love the facilities at Boca Woods Country Club. It has more of a classic country club feel to me. However, it’s certainly not as modern as other clubs in the area. If you want that wow factor when you turn every corner, you may be in the wrong place.
Take a look at a club like Mizner if that’s what you want.
For people who want good golf, good food (I’ve had plenty of lunches at Boca Woods and it’s great food), and a close knit community with like minded people, this is a good spot.
Final Thoughts
Boca Woods Country Club doesn’t get the credit it deserves when compared to other country clubs in the Boca area. Maybe that’s the way the members want to keep it! However, if you are looking for golf country clubs in western Boca Raton you can’t cross this one off the list. With two golf courses you are already setting yourself up for a great experience and future lifestyle.
