It seems that Xander Schauffele just recently went through a putter change. When this happens, we like to take a look at what may have caused this, what we can learn from it, and what the golfers putting stats look like. Let’s face facts here: sometimes, putter changes are all about sponsor dollars and equipment deals. Other times, they are about players who need to change up technology. So, if you have been wondering what putter does Xander Schauffele use, you are in the right place!
What Puter Does Xander Schauffele Use?
Xander Schauffele recently put the Odyssey Toulon Prototype 7 CH in his golf bag. The putter is a modern mallet style. Although some of the Odyssey Toulon putters are available for amateurs to purchase, this particular one is a tour prototype not yet for sale. Xander uses the SuperStroke Traxion Tour 2.0 grip on the Odyssey.

The prototype putters are kept really quiet until these get released to the market. Professional golfers are really the only ones who get to do much with the putter.
Some of the prototypes never make it to the golfers who are not a Callaway staffer. However, the Toulon line from Odyssey is a premium model where you can even customize the putter head a bit to work for your needs. Here is what Odyssey has to say about the stock models available to golfers:
“The 2022 Toulon Design putters have been completely reimagined to improve performance with a new Deep Diamond Groove mill pattern, split weighting system, our new Stroke Lab shaft, and midsize pistol grip. This putter is equipped with two 10-gram adjustable weights.”
What Putter Did Xander Schauffele Use Before The Switch?
Xander played some great golf this season with the old red Odyssey putter, the Odyssey O-Works #7 CH Red. He had the same putter grip the SuperStroke Traxion 2.0 Tour in place on this putter, so some of that feel will remain consistent for him as he makes this switch.
If you are looking for a putter with a similar look and feel, the Odyssey Tri Hot 5K #7 is quite similar, with a slightly different alignment line. Advanced golfers (and even higher handicappers) like the consistency and the start lines that the Odyssey Tri Hot 5 K produces; it’s a bit more consistent even when using it for the first time. As for myself, I’m with Jon Rahm and prefer the more subtle Odyssey Rossie model myself.
Why Did Xander Schauffele Change Putters?
Xander has played around a little with putter finish and design in the last few years. Amateur golfers don’t always put much weight into what the putter head looks like.
However, the look, feel, and sound of your golf clubs can tremendously impact how the golf ball rolls and whether or not you can repeat your stroke.
The new Odyssey Toulon Prototype is not the bright red design we have seen from Xander in the past. It looks a little more like what you will find from other tour players.
The Toulon should offer a slightly firmer feel, and he had it in play for the Tour Championship, where he finished in 2nd place right behind Victor Hovland.
Xander Shcauffele Putting Stats 2023
It’s hard to put a big PGA Tour event on and not see Schauffele somewhere near the leaderboard. Here are a few of the reasons why you may be noticing his name:
- Strokes Gained Total for 2023- 3rd Place
- Strokes Gained Putting: 4th Place
- Putting Average: 6th (with 1.711 putts per hole)
- Putts per round: 28.36 (28th place)
- One Putt %: 42% (23rd place)
One interesting fact I noticed here was when you break down Schauffele’s putts per round and look at them specifically for Rounds 1, 2, 3, and 4.
In round #1 he ranks 27th, round #2-113th, round #3-10th and round #4- 59th.
Although these numbers (aside from round 2) are relatively good, he may be looking for some more consistency and to get that final round number down just a little bit more.
What Else Is In The Bag?
Curious about what else Xander keeps in his bag? Let’s take a closer look at this entire setup now that we know he has the Odyssey Toulon prototype in as his putter.
- Driver: Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond at 10.5 degrees w/ Mitsubishi Diamana PD 70 TX shaft
- 3 Wood: Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond High Launch (16.5 degrees) w/Mitsubishi Diamana PD 80 TX
- Hybrid: Callaway Apex UW (21 degrees) w/ Mitsubishi Kai’li White 90 TX
- Irons: Callaway Apex TCB (4-PW) w/ True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100
- Wedges: Callaway Jaws Raw (52), Titleist Vokey Design SM6 (56), Titleist Vokey Design Wedge Works Proto (61) all w/True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100
What Other Professional Golfers Are Using Odyssey Putters?
Xander isn’t the only one on tour using an Odyssey putter. Here are a few other professionals who trust Odyssey when it comes to the short game.
- Jon Rahm- Odyssey White Hot OG Rossie S
- Keegan Bradley – Odyssey Versa Jailbird
- Kevin Na: Odyssey Toulon Madison
- Rickie Fowler: Odyssey Versa Jailbird
- Wyndham Clark: Odyssey Versa Jailbird
Final Thoughts
Time will tell if the overall performance of this new putter, and it’s Toulon advanced technology will give Xander a distinct advantage. I think the O Works CH 7 Red putter could be coming back at some point.
Overall, I do not doubt that Xander could adjust to any golf putter you put in his bag, but something like this new Toulon from Odyssey could lead to a few more top-10 finishes. We already know that Schauffele is a top-10 putter, so it’s time to see if he can get a few more wins than last year.
