I spent nearly 15 years of my life living just around the corner from where The Seagate Country Club is. Although I was never a member, the membership model of this particular facility has always stood out to me. It may be a resort club, and for some potential members, that’s a downside. However, with the Seagate, I’ve always felt that the positives outweigh the negatives. As a former golf professional and membership director, I’ll fill you in on everything you need to know about the Seagate Country Club, its cost, the facilities, and what people really have to say about this place.

Facilities and Features Overview – The Seagate Country Club

In 2023, The Seagate Country Club underwent an extensive renovation. Golf courses need renovation after a certain number of years. The goal is to update, improve the greens, and change some bunkers and green surround.

This was a big one, a 14.5 million dollar renovation. Some holes were completely redesigned, and the driving range and practice facilities were upgraded as well. However, the Joe Lee design is still at the heart of the club.

The 42,000-square-foot clubhouse has some new event spaces, an outdoor patio, and a curated art collection.

Needless to say, if you want a club that doesn’t need to be renovated for quite some time, this is it.

Membership Costs at The Seagate Country Club

The Seagate Country Club offers two different types of memberships. The first, and in my opinion the best option, is the Resort membership. You get access to everything the Seagate offers, including the Beach Club.

I’ve used the Beach Club several times as a guest at the Seagate Hotel downtown. This is just such an excellent benefit to have to your golf membership. Although they are not right next to each other (you’ll have to drive about ten minutes), it’s still well worth joining both simultaneously.

The golf membership is a golf-only membership with dues a little lower each year. The dues are pretty reasonable as far as South Florida golf clubs go. You’ll find that to be the case when outside play from Seagate resort guests is allowed.

Membership TypeInitiation/Equity CostAnnual Dues
Resort$30,000$16,200
Golf$30,000$13,200

The Seagate vs. The Competition

When comparing Seagate to local golf clubs in the Delray and Boynton Beach areas, there are two things that really help Seagate stand out.

  1. The entire facility was just completely renovated; if you join now, you will reap all of those rewards for years to come.
  2. The beach club at the Seagate Hotel is a great option that other golf clubs just don’t have!

Pros and Cons of The Seagate Country Club

The Seagate Country Club, like any private golf club, has its positives and negatives. Although I have yet to play the course with the newly renovated design, here are a few things to keep in mind about the way the club is run and the facilities it offers to its membership.

Newly Renovated Golf Course

Most of the clubs I’ve been associated with through the years do a major renovation or project every ten years. If you jump on The Seagate Club bandwagon right now, you’ve got a long time with no course closures and disruptions. However, you might have to deal with some maintenance issues in the first year after reopening.

Access To The Beach Club

A golf club and a beach club all for one monthly price, are we really going to debate if this is a pro or a con!

Impressive Wellness Facility

Every country club is expanding its wellness center because people want to be healthy and fit. Seagate features Technogym equipment, cardio machines, and a ton of fitness classes and activities to choose from.

Lower Initiation Fee

The initiation fee at The Seagate Country Club is $30,000. It’s a little lower because it’s a resort course and accommodates some outside play. However, when you look at some clubs in South Florida with pricing over $500,000 to get in the door, the $30,000 is quite fair.

Have To Deal With Resort Guests

One of the great things about being a country club member is that all the people at the club have the same desire to keep the course in great shape. At a resort course, you won’t get this same attitude from the resort guests.

Some of them are in for a weekend, and they just don’t care about the club the same way. It’s frustrating at times but something The Seagate is well aware of and looks out for as they accomodate these guests.

Final Thoughts

The Seagate Country Club offers a unique experience. If you are looking for a country club in the South Florida area, put this one on your list to check out. There are homes within the gate of the club that start around $1.5 million and increase to over $4 million.
