I had a pair of FootJoy Retro golf shoes that have seen better days. Although I’ve always worn FootJoy, my husband had a pair of Puma shoes that he got at the same time I purchased my FootJoy, and they still looked nearly brand new.

Although I probably hit a few more golf balls than he does, the difference in the way the shoes have worn down was pretty significant.

I purchased a pair of Puma Women’s Fasten8 Ignite to see how they would perform for me on the course. I’ll tell you there are a few concerns here, but overall for the price, I’m really happy with the Puma Women’s Fasten8 Ignite.

Puma Women’s Fasten8 Ignite: TLDR

Don’t have time to read my entire review; I get it. Here’s what you need to know.

  • When you first get the Fasten8 Ignite, it’s very tight and a little narrow; after about three rounds, the shoe loosens up tremendously.
  • The Puma Women’s Fasten8 Ignite is comfortable but not the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever owned.
  • The stability on the side of the shoe is great; the best thing about the product!
  • Traction is strong and allows for swings over 100 mph with no slipping.
  • The overall look of the shoe is a bit boxy, but not so much that I felt like I had a clown shoe on.
  • The white mesh on the Pink/White option does get dirty rather quickly, but it is cleaned up without much trouble.

Puma Women’s Fasten8 Ignite On Course Performance

I’ll give you some features and benefits of the Fasten8 Ignite golf shoe for women, but first, I think it’s more important you understand how these are on the golf course. I think it’s worth noting that this is a very affordable women’s golf shoe.

In fact, I would recommend this as an option for a new player that is still unsure about golf shoes over sneakers. These are much better than sneakers, and the pricing may be even more fair.

Stability During Rotation

My favorite part of the Puma Women’s Fasten8 Ignite golf shoes is the stability. I’m working on trying to keep my weight a little more on the inside of my right foot as I rotate back. The Puma Fasten8 is a little tight in this area and incredibly stable.

With my old FootJoy golf shoes (to be fair, they are the lower priced ones), I did find that I could slip a little, and my foot might even turn. This was not the case with the Puma shoes.

Overall Comfort

The comfort here is good, probably about a 7/10. The foam material is a little firmer than I expected. Personally, I like this, but many golfers look for something with a little more cushion.

The first two days I wore the shoes, they were a bit tight and narrow, I was worried about blisters, but now they fit perfectly.

Waterproof/Breathability

The Puma Fasten8 Ignite is waterproof, and I had no trouble with water entering the shoe as I played. We had a few rainy days in a row, and I was concerned about water coming up through the bottom, but mostly from the top with the mesh material near the toe.

My foot stayed dry, and excess moisture is not created in the shoe when temperatures were warm.

Traction

The Puma Fasten8 Ignite is a spikeless shoe, but the traction pattern worked quite well. I noticed I had a good grip when I walked the course, yet I still felt close enough to the ground.

Look/Height/Feel

The feel of the shoe is just a little heavy. They are solid and not the lightest for walking the course.

I like the overall look. It is a little boxy in the front, but that kind of helped for a full follow through finishing on the toe. Overall, I found the pink and gray color to be the best-looking in the lineup.

Key Features and Technology

On course, performance matters the most to me, but if you want a quick rundown of some of the features you can expect, here are all the details:

Color Options

Depending on your size, there are Navy, Black, White, and Grey options to choose from. I purchased the White/Pink, and I found them to be a great choice to match with various golf outfits

Ignite Foam

The entire line of Puma Ignite shoes features a midsole foam material that is supposed to provide energy return and responsiveness. I will say it’s not the most cushiony shoe you will ever wear, and I like that about it.

Expect to have a more stable and responsive feel from this type of foam material.

TPU PWRCAGE and PWRFRAME

The PWRCAGE is where you really feel that extra stability on each side of your foot. This is some impressive technology; I highly recommend it.

Performance Mesh

The mesh features on the top of the golf shoe allow for breathability, but they are also waterproof. I was a bit skeptical of this at first, but a morning of walking the course in wet grass has me convinced waterproof and mesh can work.

Organically Altered Traction

For women, Puma used a unique traction pattern on the bottom of the Fasten8 Ignite. In fact, it was cool enough that both of my kids said, “Wow, look at your shoes, Mom!”.

The pattern is supposed to be inspired by nature to allow for more grip and power throughout the golf swing. It certainly works, and for a spikeless shoe, you won’t slide or slip.

Fasten8 Nylon Straps

The Nylon Straps, combined with the lacing system, make it feel as though your foot is wrapped in the shoe. They stretch out over a few rounds, but you stile in the shoe, which helps with better rotation.

The Bottom Line

I can confidently recommend the Puma Fasten8 Ignite golf shoes for women. Be prepared for the shoe to be tight the first few rounds; you may want to wear it to the range a few times before you head to the course.

Once you get used to the snug fit, it will actually benefit you and potentially make it easier for you to rotate, pivot and stay locked in with the ground beneath your feet.

For the price of the Puma Fasten8 Ignite, you can’t go wrong.
