As a female golf professional, I’ve worked with hundreds of beginner golfers ready to jump into the game of golf. In fact, I even got to enjoy this process with my mom when she decided to try her hand in the game. Female golfers need different equipment than men. With the right first set of clubs for women beginners, the chance of shooting low scores and sticking with the game is much higher. I’ll show you what your options are (there aren’t a ton) and why you would choose each of these. Price, doesn’t really matter here, you need to purchase a set of clubs that ensure you won’t quit the game before you fall in love with it.

The Best Women’s Beginner Golf Clubs

The best women’s beginner golf clubs are the Cobra Women’s Fly XL. I’ve played with these clubs and they have a large sweet spot, great distance and easily get the golf ball up in the air.

There are other great beginner sets on the market, but if you just want the quick answer for a set that works and it gets the job done the Cobra Fly XL are your best bet. The others I like are:

Golf Club SetCategoryProsCons
Cobra Women’s Fly XL CompleteBest OverallLarge sweet spot, great distance, back/heel weighted for easy lift.Higher price point but offers great value.
TaylorMade KaleaBest PremiumHigh-quality materials, Speed Pocket technology for distance, high launch and stability.Expensive, but worth the investment for serious beginners.
Callaway RevaBest for LongevityAI Flash Face technology for distance and straight flight, durable.Best for slower swing speeds; may need to add a 5 wood.
Cleveland BloomBest for ForgivenessTwo fairway woods and two hybrids included, large sweet spots for easy hits.May need to upgrade as skills improve.
Wilson Magnolia Full SetBest for Occasional GolferThree hybrids for ease of use, affordable with enough tech for casual play.Feel and technology not on par with more premium sets.
Callaway Strata 11 Piece Women’s SetBest ValueAffordable, lightweight and easy to launch, includes a quality stand bag.Comes with only 7 clubs; may need to add a sand wedge for versatility.

I’ll break down each of these for you and let you know what you can expect and which ones would be an excellent choice for your golf game.

Cobra Women’s Fly XL Complete Set– The Best Overall

The first time I put a Cobra driver in my hand, it helped me gain more than 20 yards over the club I was playing. However, what I really fell in love with was the feel of the clubs. I still think Cobra golf clubs have some of the best feel in the game, and this Cobra Women’s Fly XL is no exception.

Clubs Included: Driver, 3, 5, & 7 Woods, 5 Hybrid, 6-9 Irons, Pitching Wedge, Sand Wedge, Putter

Positives

The Cobra Women’s Fly XL Complete has three fairway woods (3, 5 and 7). Women golfers use fairway woods on the golf course a lot. Having three to choose from makes this set a really strong value. In addition, the clubs are back/heel weighted, which helps get the ball off the ground. You’ll get a little more distance and plenty of accuracy simultaneously.

Negatives

The Cobra Fly XL for women isn’t the cheapest set on the market, but it is a great option that still provides great value. I also love that as your skill level improves you can still use the Fly XL and you don’t need to upgrade to the $2000+ sets until you are really serious about the game.

Who’s It For

Any beginner golfer who is serious about playing and taking the game seriously. The Cobra Fly XL gives you a real chance of success and that’s why it’s my favorite.

TaylorMade Kalea – Best Premium

If money isn’t an issue, the TaylorMade Kalea is a great set of clubs for beginner women players. The clubs are lightweight, made with high quality materials and will last you for years to come.

Clubs Included: Driver, 3 Wood, 5 & 6 Hybrids, 7-9 Irons, Pitching Wedge, Sand Wedge, Putter

Positives

The biggest positive of the TaylorMade Kalea is the technology. These are the best golf clubs you can find in a complete set from a technology standpoint. Speed Pocket technology (for greater distance) that TaylorMade uses in all of their premium clubs can be found throughout the Kalea set. All of the clubs have a ladies’ flex shaft and offer high launch and stability at impact. The bag also looks great.

  • The Cap Back Design utilizes high-strength stainless steel combined with a light-weight multi-material badge. This is designed to maximize distance, forgiveness and launch while providing excellent feel.

Negatives

It’s an expensive set, but I still believe it’s a good value. As a new woman golfer, you may look at these golf clubs and think it’s expensive to spend over $ 1,000 for a complete set of clubs. However, individual clubs often cost $500 each; for just a driver or $350 for just a putter. This 10-club set is still of great value.

Who’s It For

The woman beginner golfer who does not have to think about pricing on an initial set will enjoy what the TaylorMade Kalea has to offer. I also find that this golf equipment gives me a few more yards. If distance is something you are looking for, these are a great choice.

Callaway Reva – Best For Longevity

Some golfers want to purchase a new set of golf clubs every year. If that’s you, move right on from this choice. If instead, you want to put some money into a set that is going to last and give you a quality product to work with for the next 7+ years the Callaway Reva is the perfect choice.

Clubs Included: Driver, 3 Wood, 5 & 6 Hybrids, 7-9 Irons, Pitching Wedge, Sand Wedge, Putter

Positives

The first thing I noticed about the Callaway Reva is how great they feel. Callaway used some of their AI Flash Face technology in the driver and not only is it long, it has higher launch and a really straight ball flight. The sand wedge also sits really nicely and can get you started on your golf journey by making the shorter shots easier to hit. Callaway has two beginner sets (Reva and Strata – see below); the Reva is better for the overall quality it offers.

  • Designed for the ultimate combination of distance and forgiveness to inspire confidence in every swing.

Negatives

I find the Callaway Reva to be best for the slower swing speed women players. If you have the ability to go after the ball with a little more speed, go with the Cobra. It’s not a true negative, just something to look out for as you shop. In addition, there is just one fairway wood, so you may have to add a 5 wood to this set at some point.

Who’s It For

If you want something for beginners but don’t want low quality, the Callaway Reva is a great choice. They are easy to hit clubs, the bag is nice and the technology is impressive enough to make it last for quite a few years.

Cleveland Bloom – Best For Forgiveness

A friend of mine needed a set of golf clubs for his mother and we talked about her abilities and strengths and I recommended the Cleveland Bloom. These were by far the best clubs for her, leading to quick success on the course, and the stylish design of the bag is appealing to any new player on their golfing journey.

Clubs Included: Driver, 3 & 5 Woods, 5 & 6 Hybrids, 7-9 Irons, Pitching Wedge, Sand Wedge, Putter

Positives

I love the set makeup of the Cleveland Bloom. It has two fairway woods AND two hybrids. In addition, it comes with a sand wedge. Cleveland makes some of the highest-quality golf wedges in the game. The Cleveland Bloom is just all-around lightweight and forgiving. With large sweet spots on every club, you’ll wonder why people talk about golf being so hard!

Negatives

Not too many negatives with this one. If you want large heads with big sweet spots, it’s a good fit. If you get really good at the game, you may be trading this one out in a few years, but that’s not a bad problem to have!

Who’s It For

If sports aren’t really your thing and you know there will be a bit of a learning curve when you buy clubs, give the Cleveland Bloom a try. I know a few players that were worried about their ability to learn the game, and the quality of these clubs made it possible.

Wilson Magnolia Full Set – Best For Occasional Golfer

Let’s be honest about this: not all women golfers have their sights set on the club championship trophy. In fact, some women golfers only want to play once a month in a nine and dine with friends. And that is ok! If you think this describes you as a golfer, take a closer look at the Wilson Magnolia full set.

Clubs Included: Driver, 3 Fairway Wood, 4, 5, 6 Hybrid, 7-9 Irons, Pitching Wedge, Sand Wedge, Putter

Positives

Hands down, my favorite thing about the Wilson Magnolia is the three hybrids. As a new player, you have to learn to love hybrids. These hybrids are easy to hit out of the short or long grass. In addition the set comes with a clean looking blade style sand wedge. In addition, the putter is a modified mallet with plenty of stability.

  • Wilson Magnolia Package Golf Set with Carry Bag – Right Hand, Ladies, Navy

Negatives

So, if the set has three hybrids and is affordable, why is it just for the occasional golfer? The feel and technology in the Wilson Magnolia just aren’t the same. I don’t want to call it a value set because it’s not one of these $199 package sets. It still has a stylish golf bag, good-quality clubs, and enough tech to get you around the course. The problem is when you look at distance, forgiveness, or even launch technology – it just doesn’t compare to something like the Reva, Cobra, or Callaway.

Who’s It For

The Wilson Magnolia set is for a woman golfer looking for affordability for what will be an occasional hobby. It also works well for a second set if you travel a lot or have two golf homes.

Callaway Strata Women’s Set – Best Value

Finally, we have the Callaway Strata. This is probably the most well known golf club set for new women golfers. It’s a good option, in fact it’s how I got my mom started in the game, but it’s not for everyone.

Clubs Included: Driver, 5 Wood, 5 Hybrid, 7 and 9 Irons, Pitching Wedge, Putter

Positives

The most glaring positive here is the price tag on the Callaway Strata set. If you want to get beginner clubs without breaking the bank, this is the set to go with. The Strata has a quality stand bag, and the clubs are lightweight and easy to launch. I was surprised how far I could hit the irons and the driver. I expected quite a bit less distance, considering this isn’t the top technology.

  • The Strata 11 Piece women’s complete golf set is designed for maximum performance right out of the box. Set includes: Driver, 5 Wood, 5 Hybrid, 7 & 9 Iron, SW, Putter, Stand Bag, and 3 Head covers

Negatives

I like this 11-piece Callaway Strata set for women, but it’s not eleven clubs. In fact, you only get 7 golf clubs. For new women starting in the game, there are plenty of clubs. However, I would consider adding a sand wedge soon after starting to play. You will want the sand wedge at some point to help with bunker shots and getting up and down when there is hardly any green to work with. You can get away with a low-price initial purchase on this set, but you may need to add to it.

Who’s It For

Beginner women golfers on a budget should highly consider the Callaway Strata. It’s lightweight, affordable, and still has the technology women golfers need.

How To Choose The Best Women’s Beginner Golf Clubs

Making a mistake buying your first set of women’s golf clubs will cost you anywhere from $300 to $1500. Don’t make a mistake. Follow these steps and tips, and you will end up with something that actually helps you enjoy the game. I promise golf is fun. You just need to start on the right foot.

Number of Clubs

How many golf clubs do beginner lady golfers need? I always recommend anywhere from 8-10. More than 10 won’t hurt; you just won’t use them, so it may not be worth spending the extra money. Less than 8, and you might not have the setup you need to start really playing the game. The best golf sets have:

  • Driver
  • Fairway wood (1 or 2)
  • Hybrid (1 or 2)
  • Irons (2-4)
  • Wedge (Pitching and Sand)
  • Putter

Club Length

Ladies’ complete set of golf clubs often comes in a standard or petite option. Some women’s golf clubs also come in tall.

Golfer HeightSet Type
Under 5’3″Petite Set
5’3″ to 5’9″Standard Set
Over 5’9″Tall Set

Complete Set vs. Individual Clubs

Purchasing a complete set as the first set of golf clubs for a woman beginner is the best option. You can start your golf journey at an affordable price; you get a golf bag to go with it, and the clubs are built specifically for new players.

The lightweight design, higher loft, and club set makeup are perfect for the beginner player. Purchasing individual clubs instead of the complete set would increase the price by $1000 or more.

Price Range

Golf club sets for beginner women range in price from around $200 to over $1500. It’s smart to spend at least $400-$500 to ensure you are getting the right set of clubs with some quality.

Golf clubs in the $700-$1300 range really have advanced technology and a step up in performance. Think about your overall budget and what you plan to do with the game. The more you want to play, the more money you should spend on clubs.

Stand vs. Cart Bag (The Extras)

Buy a set of womens beginner golf clubs because of the clubs not the extras. You can add headcovers or a golf bag that fits your needs at any point.

The complete golf club set is convenient, but the extras are not nearly as important as the club set makeup and the quality of the golf clubs. You can always sell the bag if you don’t like it. Take advantage of clubs that are a good fit for your game.
