Everybody likes to think they know what they are doing out on the golf course. However, there is always something you can learn on the course. If you have been leary of accepting advice from your friends or even instructors, that is understandable. There is a lot of bad advice in golf. However, there is some advice you will regret not following. Here are a few of those.
The Grip Matters More Than You Think
I know it’s probably the most boring part of the golf game to practice. However, the golf grip is the foundation of your swing. If you don’t hold the club correctly, don’t even bother swinging it back.
The proper grip will help ensure control and consistency.
In addition, you can improve shot accuracy and ball flight.
Take a little time to experiment with different grip positions. A neutral grip isn’t necessarily the best for every player.
Use the Ground to Generate Power
The ground is your friend in the golf swing. Leverage the ground by pushing off with your feet as you swing through the golf ball. This action helps transfer energy into the golf ball.
Think about other sports you play and how important it is to push into the ground and use it to gain power.
Golf is no different.
Watch the pros, and you’ll see them push off the ground as they hit the ball.
Keep Your Head Steady
Having a steady head position throughout your golf swing will only help. You will improve ball contact and accuracy and hit the ball consistently.
If you aren’t already doing this, start with your wedges and learn how to do it from there. Keep the weight more on your lead side and the head right over the golf ball.
If you get this down and feel a consistent strike, you can move to the short and mid irons. Your head may move slightly behind the ball with the driver. However, if you think steady head in the golf swing, it will never hurt you.
The Golf Ball Matters
Playing with the right golf ball matters. You’ll get more distance without having to change your swing, and you’ll have more control around the green.
You can experiment with a few different types of golf balls, but most golfers who invest a little in a urethane cover and three or more pieces are quite happy with the performance they get.
Once you find a golf ball you like, stick with it. The consistency you’ll get in your game will be well worth it.
Practice Alignment
Alignment of your golf shots may seem like something that comes naturally.
That’s not true!
So many golfers struggle with the ability to line the ball up correctly. YOu must practice alignment if you plan on playing great golf.
Use alignment sticks, line up your shots on the range, and make adjustments if you don’t hit your target.
Alignment is not natural in golf; work on it to get better!
Lead Wrist at Impact Should Be Flat
Your wrists have much more impact on your golf swing than you likely think they do. If you don’t carefully position your lead wrist so that it is flat or slightly bowed at impact, you’ll miss out on distance and control.
Take a look at the lead wrist position at the top of your swing.
Is it flexed or extended?
Most amateur golfers have an extended position that causes a slice or a weak fade.
Instead, work on that flat or slightly flexed position, and you’ll see an instant difference in your performance at impact.
I understand wanting to be careful about the information you accept. However, don’t be afraid to take these golf tips; you may regret it if you don’t.
