Golf is, in my opinion, one of the most addictive sports. I’ve played a lot of other sports, and I easily fall in love with them and can’t get enough. However, golf is the only one that’s been able to sustain my interest for more than 30 years. Becoming a golf addict happens fast, and there is likely nothing you can do to stop it. Here are 10 things only golf addicts will understand.

All Wardrobe Choices Are Golf-Friendly Wardrobe Choices

If you’re buying a jacket or sweater, it has to be golf-friendly. What’s the point in having a great jacket if you can’t swing in it? All of a sudden, you realize that you need more clothes for on the course than you do for off the course.

New Golf Clubs = New Hope

There is no way around it: if you are a golf addict, you’ll be hopeful anytime you get a new golf club in your bag. Even if all the professionals tell you that it may save you a shot or just half a shot, you’ll still have big plans for any new piece of equipment you put in the bag.

Masters Week Is A National Holiday

If you don’t save a few days off from work for the Masters, you may not be considered a golf addict. It’s that serious. The US Open is not far behind, but there is something different about the Masters that golf addicts understand.

Weather Checking Obsession

Golf addicts love to watch the weather. They start talking about patterns and shifts, and pockets and cells, and all of a sudden, you realize you are a part-time weather forecaster. The ultimate goal, though, is to just make sure you have time to get your round in before the weather kicks you off the course.

You’ll Remember Every Shot

If you had to replay every shot you had in your round today, you probably could. However, the three things your wife asked you to pick up at the grocery store on the way home . . . those are gone. No memory of those, just the 7 shots it took you to get it in on the 14th hole.

Putting Practice Can Happen Everywhere

Golf addicts have accepted that every surface becomes a potential putting green. If you want to practice your putting, you can do it anywhere, and you can fully believe it will make a difference in your next round of golf.

Travel Plans Centered Around Golf

There are two different ways to travel: golf trips and vacations. Right?

Wrong!

Golfers only know one way to travel and every trip is a golf trip. You’ll find the local course, the golf resort or the practice range, its’ just part of every trip.

Bonding Over Golf

Golf addicts feel an instant connection with every other golfer. Even complete strangers aren’t truly strangers because they’re golfers. Golf creates a unique bond and a way to share something that non-golfers may not really understand.

The Elusive Hole-in-One Dream

Even when playing your worst round of golf, the thought creeps into your head that today could be the day you get a hole-in-one. It’s impossible not to want a hole-in-one. Even though we all know that hole-in-ones are not the best shot you’ll ever hit, you can’t help but want one.

The Eternal Optimism

Golf addicts always think the next round or shot will be the best one. What’s the point of coming back out to play if we can’t be optimistic about it? At some point in every round, you’ll have a shot or a moment that makes you realize you love the game and you are coming back tomorrow no matter what!

Final Thoughts

At this point, you should probably have a pretty good idea as to if you are a golf addict. If you made it all the way through this list, chances are you are. Millions of us can relate; you are not alone!
